[haw-info] George W Bush Presidential Conference (Really) ---Proposal deadline Jan 8 2014

Alternative perspectives welcome !!

In the Spring of 2015 Hofstra University will be hosting the George W. Bush Presidential Conference. If experience of former Presidential Conferences is any guide---participants in this three-day event will include Bush himself, along with most of his Cabinet, top advisors etc. There is usually a substantial press presence at these events. ( However, because of the controversy surrounding this particular presidency, attendance of all these luminaries is not guaranteed).*In contrast to the event held earlier this year at the Bush Library, the Hofstra Conference is open to the public and should facilitate direct conversation between past officials and critics.

One form of participation is to present a paper at the Conference. There is a selection process in place, which calls for a 500-word abstract, plus CV. Since everything is being done well in advance, these proposals need to be submitted by January 8, 2014.

Happy to help with this, so let me know if you wish to submit a proposal. You can use this email or my Hofstra address Carolyn.Eisenberg@hofstra.edu.
Pasted below is the official call for papers and more detailed information

Hofstra University is pleased to announce that its 12th presidential conference, The George W. Bush Presidency, will take place March 24-26, 2015. Beginning in 1982 with an examination of the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Hofstra's presidential conferences have brought together scholars, journalists, former government officials and, in some cases, the former presidents themselves to discuss the president's campaign, political leadership, policy agenda, and legacy. The University has published proceedings from every conference, which have become standard scholarly volumes and serve as early oral histories of each presidency.

Papers will be selected for presentation at the conference as well as for potential publication based on the depth and originality of perspective on the subject. Previously published material will not be considered and should not be submitted.

A one-page abstract (500 words) and curriculum vitae should be submitted via email to hofculctr@hofstra.edu by January 8, 2014.

The Hofstra conference committee will review paper proposals and announce accepted selections in spring 2014. Papers will be due in January 2015 and will be posted on the conference website for participants to review before the conference.

Papers should not exceed 20 double-spaced pages (approximately 6,000 words), excluding notes.
